Kostas Giannopoulos is a former businessman who founded the Non Governmental Organisation “The Smile of the Child” in 1996, after his younger son, Andreas, who passed away at age ten due to terminal illness, had expressed his wish for the foundation of a child protection organisation on national television. He serves as Chairman of the Board of the organisation, as well as on the boards of the International Centre for Missing and Sexually Exploited Children (ICMEC), and the European Federation for Missing Children (Missing Children Europe).
